Canada Protection Plan has specialised in no-medical life insurance since 1992. If you've been turned down elsewhere, or you just don't want a medical exam, it's often one of the first places an advisor will look. It doesn't ask whether you've been declined before, and your answers to its health questions decide which plan you qualify for.

Term life
- Express Elite Term: 20-year (ages 18 to 60) or 30-year (ages 18 to 50), $100,000 to $750,000 (up to $500,000 from age 51). Renewable to age 80. The 20-year plan is convertible to age 70.
- A–Z term plans (Preferred, Preferred Elite, Simplified Elite and Deferred Elite): 10, 20 or 25-year terms, plus a 25-year decreasing term for a mortgage. Coverage runs from $25,000 up to $1 million, depending on the plan you qualify for. The 10-year plan renews to age 80 and converts to age 70. The 20 and 25-year plans can't be renewed or converted.
Permanent life
- Whole life, no medical: Preferred and Preferred Elite (up to $1 million), Simplified Elite (up to $500,000), Deferred Elite (up to $350,000) and Deferred (up to $75,000), for ages 18 to 80. Paid for life or over 20 years.
- Guaranteed Acceptance Life: no health questions, ages 18 to 75, up to $50,000.
- Every whole life plan includes a terminal illness benefit (75% of coverage, up to $250,000) and a transportation benefit (up to $2,000) if death happens more than 200 km from home.
Critical illness
- No-medical critical illness plans, including cover for people with a history of conditions such as cancer or heart disease. A critical illness rider can also be added to Express Elite Term.
Other products
- Optional riders: accidental death, child term, and a hospital cash benefit on some plans.
What stands out
- No medical exam, blood tests or fluids. An MIB check is done on every application.
- It never asks whether you've been declined, rated or postponed by another insurer.
- On the Deferred and Guaranteed Acceptance plans, a death from natural causes in the first two years isn't paid in full. Check the waiting period before you choose one of these.
- Premiums are paid monthly, and the first payment is taken in the second month.
Who it suits
- people who've been declined or rated elsewhere
- anyone who needs coverage quickly without a medical exam
- older applicants (up to age 80) who want simple whole life for final expenses
When to look elsewhere
If you're in good health, have a full-underwriting quote done first. Foresters Term, from the same parent company, or plans from Canada Life, Sun Life or iA are usually cheaper for the same coverage.

Common questions
Does Canada Protection Plan require a medical exam?
No. None of its plans need a medical exam, blood test or fluids. You answer health questions, and those answers decide which plan you're offered.
Is Canada Protection Plan the same as the Canada Pension Plan?
No. They share the initials CPP, but Canada Protection Plan is a private life insurance brand owned by Foresters Financial. The Canada Pension Plan is the federal retirement pension.
Can I buy Canada Protection Plan through an independent advisor?
Yes. Pankaj can compare and arrange it for you.
Is Canada Protection Plan a good insurer?
It depends on what you need. One of the best options in Canada for people who are hard to insure, with a plan for nearly every health history. If you're healthy, a fully underwritten plan will usually cost less.
